Booking a studio newborn photography session
Booking a studio newborn photography session starts with a phone call! In about 15 minutes, we can go over what working together looks like, discuss the talk through any questions you have, and figure out if this feels like the right fit. If it does, we’ll get your session on the calendar and start planning!
“We just had our newborn photoshoot with Jessica in November for our youngest daughter and Jessica was once again amazing!! Her kindness, patience, friendliness, and expertise is unmatched. Our newborn session was so relaxing and stress free and our photos are perfect. If you’re pregnant, go book a photoshoot with Jessica! You’ll love the experience and you’ll be beyond happy with your photos!”

The JW Brown Photography Studio
Located in Ridgefield, CT.
Welcome to my corner of Fairfield County, where I specialize in studio newborn photography, along with maternity, family, cake smash photography. Basically a one-stop-shop for your family’s photography needs.
My professional photography studio provides a comfortable and welcoming experience for both parents and little ones.
After years of working out of my home, the time was right in 2023 to open up a professional space in the heart of Ridgefield, CT. I designed this studio with your convenience in mind. You'll find cozy couches, snacks, toys for siblings, and a changing table, so you can relax while we capture these precious moments. With every prop, headband, and bonnet meticulously organized, studio newborn photography sessions run smoothly and efficiently, allowing us to focus on creating beautiful, timeless images of your newborn.
The room is kept to 75+ degrees which is purely for the baby's sake — they like it toasty!
Plentiful on-site parking and a private bathroom are available for all clients.
Scheduling & when to book
For all studio newborn photography packages, I typically book out anywhere between 2-4 months in advance. It is highly recommended to book your newborn session while still pregnant, as this guarantees your session when baby arrives. Based on your due date, we pencil in a prospective session date. Once baby arrives, I ask you to contact me within the first 48 hours so we can either confirm the original date or find a new one that suits us both.
Payment
A $300 deposit is required to book your studio newborn photography session, and the remainder of the payment is due the day of the session. Additional digital images and/or products can be ordered and paid for after your session date.
CT sales tax of 6.35% will be applied to all sessions.
What to bring
1. A pacifier, even if you don't use one at home, they can be very useful for settling baby purely for photos.
2. Extra diapers
3. Extra formula and bottles (if bottle fed).
Otherwise, just dress the rest of your family appropriately for pictures, or bring picture-ready clothes to change into — this is especially helpful when you have toddlers who get messy easily!
You’re also welcome to bring keepsakes if you’d like to incorporate a special blanket or stuffed animal in your studio newborn photography session.
Styling FOR STUDIO NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY
For the baby
I have a full selection of bonnets, headbands, and tiny newborn outfits along with countless fabrics, wraps, and baskets. I source my props from all over the world and I am constantly adding to my collection. In short, I have everything we need for a beautifully styled studio newborn photography session!
For the rest of the family
Moms, wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident! Dads, a simple button-up or a plain t-shirt with no prints (+ lighter pants or jeans) works well. For siblings, coordinate outfits to match mom and dad. Lighter neutrals (blush, cream, light blue, beige) always work.
I have everything needed for the baby!

Studio vs. in-home lifestyle photography: HOW TO DECIDE?
When choosing between studio newborn photography and in-home lifestyle newborn photography sessions, it's essential to understand the unique experiences each offers. Studio sessions are conducted in a controlled environment equipped with professional lighting and curated props, ensuring consistent, high-quality images with classic backdrops. This setting allows me to focus on detailed posing and styling, capturing your newborn in a variety of artistic compositions. And, as a bonus, you don’t have to tidy up your home in advance of the photoshoot.
In contrast, in-home lifestyle sessions take place within the comfort of your own home, emphasizing natural interactions and the authentic atmosphere of your living space. These sessions highlight candid moments, such as family members bonding with the newborn in familiar surroundings, resulting in images that tell a personal story. This approach is particularly meaningful for families who, for example, spent a lot of time and energy creating the perfect nursery, or who appreciate a more candid and casual vibe to their pictures.
Choosing between the two depends on your personal preferences! I love both styles, which is why I continue to offer both to my clients. Still on the fence? You may find this blog post helpful, as it digs further into this question and provides a variety of image from previous JWB sessions.
